What’s New: 2011 Insight
The big news for Insight for 2011 is a new, even more affordable standard trim level. Additional standard equipment has been added to all trim levels.

Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) is now standard on all Insight models.
Cruise Control is now standard on all models.
Floor mats are now standard on all EX trims.
Steering wheel-mounted audio controls are now standard on all EX trims.
USB Audio Interface is now standard on LX and EX models.
Blue interior trim items shift to black.
The exterior color palette has been revised.

Davenport Raised $5,049 for United Way!

Davenport Autopark exceeded its goal in support of local United Way Charities!

Davenport Autopark set a goal to raise $5,000 by December 10, 2010. This fund raising effort was a combination of pledges from Davenport employees paid through payroll deductions and a raffle that employees, customers, and community members could participate in.

Davenport raised $5,049 and held its drawing at 3:00pm today, December 10, 2010. “We had 100% employee participation”, said Neill Nelson, General Manager of Davenport Autopark.

Davenport Autopark would like to thank and recognize the local merchants who donated prizes for the drawing. These merchants are; Hair, Heart, and Soul * Loves Gentlemen Clothiers * Westridge Grill * Office Depot * Osbourne Jewlers * Baileys * Levys *

Drawing winners are; Angelo Phillips, Jennifer Walker, Elizabeth Rose, Mark Carter, Wes Jeffries, Jimmy Burgess, and Mary Kitchin.

Autumn's Loving Hand

This morning I learned about an annual local Christmas Lights event called Autumn's Lights. I want to pass along the link and information about this incredibly generous local charity.

From the Website:
My parents and I have a non profit organization called "Autumn’s Loving Hand", named after me. Every year we put up a huge Christmas light display to raise money for kids in need. It was something that my parents started the first day I was born to begin a tradition and teach me about helping others.

Every year, hundreds of people come by to see our lights. All of the donations we receive go to help a child suffering from a medical condition such as cancer, osteoporosis, cerebral palsy, various types of transplants and more.

I am very blessed to be in great health, unlike so many other kids out there. Please stop by this year and help support my cause.

Honda Is UCS’ Greenest Automaker for the Fifth Consecutive Time

Honda has the greenest vehicles in the United States, according to a study released October 7 by the Union of Concerned Scientists, a nonprofit advocacy group. The results of the study were calculated using the predicted impact of automakers’ fleets on global warming – based largely on miles per gallon – as well as smog-forming emissions of engines. The study looked at eight automakers that together sold 92% of the vehicles available in the United States during the 2008 model year – the most recent year for which comprehensive information was available from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Transportation Department.

The study said that “selling modest number of clean and efficient models” was not enough to be considered a green automaker. Instead, an automaker has to do well with all its vehicles. Honda has taken the top spot every time since the study began. This is important news for environmentally conscious customers.

GM posts third straight quarterly profit in advance of IPO

GM, in its final financial snapshot before next week's initial public offering, posted third quarter net income of $1.96 billion on revenues of $34.06 billion. An accelerating turnaround in North America contributed to the automaker's third straight quarterly profit; “The results of the third quarter clearly point to the amount of progress GM has made,” CEO Dan Akerson said.

Honda Accord Gets The Best Possible Safety Rating!

Honda Motor Co.'s Accord received the best possible safety rating among 2011 model-year passenger cars tested for crashes under new U.S. evaluation standards, edging ahead of Toyota Motor Corp. and Hyundai Motor Co. sedans. The mid-size Accord, Honda's top-selling U.S. model, got an overall five-star rating, according to results posted on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website. Of 40 models tested so far, six rated five stars overall. The Accord is the first to get five stars in each of three crash categories tested by NHTSA.

The Old Downtown Dealership

Since our beginning on the corner of Washington and Hill streets in March 1929, when Pepsi and candy bars sold for a nickel each, Davenport Autopark has been a family owned and operated business dedicated to exceptional service and outstanding community involvement. Founded by the late David Davenport selling Pontiac and Oakland vehicles, he quickly grew the business into one of the country’s most recognized dealerships.

In the early years, Davenport operated on a 24-hour schedule. As stated: “Davenport Motor Co. In the heart of the city. Open all night. Call 286 for service.” Our dedication to serving our customers has been our trademark to this day. The Cadillac name was added to their line of vehicles in 1935 and Honda came on board in 1974. You could get a Honda then for $2,500-$2,800. Isuzu was added in 1991, but for only 7 years, because in 1998 Cadillac and Isuzu were exchanged for GMC and Buick. The line-up was completed as it remains today: Honda, GMC and Buick.

The 2010 - 2011 Teacher of the Year

Suzanne Weaver, music teacher at Red Oak Elementary School and Swift Creek Elementary School and the 2010-2011 Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools Teacher of the Year left the annual celebration with keys to a brand new Honda Insight Hybrid presented by Neill Nelson of Davenport Autopark.

This is the fourth year that Davenport Autopark has donated an automobile for the Teacher of the Year to use for the entire school year.

"Davenport Honda believes in supporting education and our dedicated educators in the Nash-Rocky Mount area. We truly appreciate teachers and the incredible job they do for our children and our community," Nelson said. "Personally, we had two children who received outstanding educations at Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools and this is a way of giving back. The Teacher and Principal of the Year Celebration is always a highlight of the year. Meeting all the teachers and seeing the excitement on the faces of the best of the best in truly an inspiring experience."

Davenport Honda joins the U. S Marine Corps Reserve for the fifth year in a row to help the Toys for Tots Foundation collect toys for children who are less fortunate.

Since 1991, Marines have distributed an average of 15,000,000 toys annually, and brought the joy of Christmas to an average of 6,100,000 needy children each year.

As more families have less to spend at Christmas, now more than ever the Toys for Tots program needs your help. The goal for Davenport Honda is to support this program by filling the Honda CR-V in our showroom with new unwrapped toys. Stop by our Honda Showroom and donate any new toy, large or small, and deliver a smile where it's needed most.
